Imcheonggak is one of the oldest private residences in Korea and the birthplace of Seokju Lee Sangryong, the first Prime Minister of the Korean Provisional Government. Once a grand estate with 99 rooms, about 50 remain today. The house was home to three generations of independence activists, producing 11 recognized patriots, including Lee Sangryong, his son, and grandson. During the Japanese colonial period, the Jungang Line railway was intentionally routed through the property to undermine its historical significance, resulting in the forced demolition of its servants’ quarters and annexes. In December 2020, following the relocation of Andong Station, the railway and soundproof walls blocking the house were removed, paving the way for restoration. Nearby stands the Andong Beopheungsa Temple Site Seven-story Brick Pagoda (National Treasure No. 16), the oldest brick pagoda in Korea.
